Fasting · When the moment comes

Break your fast with dates

The practice
Break your fast with a few fresh dates; if you have none, dried dates; if none, a few sips of water. Do it before praying Maghrib.
When
At iftar on a fasting day
In daily life
Keep a box of dates in the kitchen, your bag or the car's glovebox, so they're ready when Maghrib comes in, even if it catches you in traffic. If you've run out, a few sips of water will do.
